Rawlings, Easton, Miken, Worth, and Tanner represent a family of legendary sporting goods brands built around performance, craftsmanship, and innovation. From professional athletes to everyday players, these brands have set the standard for quality equipment and a deep connection to the game for generations.

THE CHALLENGE

Rawlings needed to modernize its payment infrastructure across ecommerce and in-store channels. Their Salesforce Commerce Cloud storefront was running separate integrations for different payment methods, including third-party cartridges for providers like AfterPay and Affirm, resulting in duplicated logic, higher maintenance costs, and slower rollout of new payment types.

At the same time, Rawlings was onboarding a new point-of-sale system. To ensure a seamless customer experience and unified reporting across channels, they needed a single global payments platform that could:

  • Consolidate providers
  • Simplify the checkout experience
  • Reduce custom code and cartridge dependencies
  • Support rapid integration of new payment methods
  • Launch before the upcoming holiday season

"Rawlings needed a payments platform that could unify ecommerce and in-store transactions while supporting a wide range of payment methods. Adyen provided the flexibility to consolidate multiple integrations into a single, scalable solution without adding operational complexity."

Chris Bergemann, CEO, DEMAND

DEMAND was engaged to architect and deliver a modern, unified payments experience using Adyen, replacing existing fraud and payment integrations.

MODERN ARCHITECTURE

DEMAND modernized Rawlings’ payment stack by replacing multiple standalone integrations with a consolidated Adyen implementation. Using Adyen’s SFRA cartridge as the foundation, our team refactored legacy payment logic, eliminating redundant customization and removing the previously required AfterPay and Affirm cartridges.

This new architecture significantly reduces technical debt, centralizes payment logic in a single integration layer, and enables Rawlings to manage all ecommerce and in-store transactions through one platform. It provides a global, scalable foundation that can easily accommodate future payment methods and geographic expansion.

The result is a more maintainable, scalable payments foundation with faster time-to-market for new payment methods and reduced operational complexity.

STREAMLINED CHECKOUT

As part of the payment modernization effort, Rawlings also wanted to remove friction from the checkout experience. Their previous checkout followed a four-step sequence: Contact → Shipping → Payment → Summary, which created unnecessary interruptions and increased the likelihood of abandonment.

DEMAND worked to consolidate this experience into a two-step checkout focused on what customers actually need to complete a purchase: Shipping and Payment. By removing redundant steps and simplifying the path to conversion, the new flow delivers a faster, cleaner checkout experience that aligns with modern ecommerce expectations.

The streamlined design not only reduces cognitive load for shoppers, but also complements Rawlings’ new unified payment step, ensuring that the customer experience is as efficient as the underlying architecture powering it.

“This engagement focused on simplifying a complex payment ecosystem while improving both performance and maintainability. By consolidating integrations and modernizing the checkout experience, we were able to deliver a solution that supports both current needs and future growth.”
